Too stupid to know better....

A few years ago I decided I wanted to learn how to felt; the whole felting wool thing was suddenly really, really appealing to me. I only had two problems:

I didn't knit or crochet. (I didn't have any experience with felting so I hadn't heard of needle felting yet)

And the biggy - I'm allergic to wool. (Yeah... Doh! Right?)

Undeterred because you can be undeterred when you don't know any better... I moved on with my felting plan.

Wool is really expensive. And eventually I stumbled upon Knitpicks.com. Their prices are beyond reasonable and at the time I ordered you could get a sample pack (one of each color) of their palette yarns for a great price.

And I did.

My family had a total, What the? moment and was all, What's with the yarn? Because as far as they were concerned I could do nothing with yarn and there was the pesky hive/rash/itching thing.

Anyway. Totally bit the big one on knitting. Huge fail. But crocheting was an entirely different matter. Somehow I worked it. Felting was a different story and managed to work that out from the beginning.

I remembered this story because I started listing on my etsy.com shop yesterday and ran into all this stuff again. Plus it's around that time of year when I start felting again. I seem to tolerate wool better (best I can anyway) in winter. And it's getting to be winter.

I started with bracelets...

Since I couldn't read patterns I was winging it. Some had buttons and some I added roses I made and felted.

I made a scarf too...

With a button...

And this too because as near as I could figure everyone was doing it...

Yeah, I made a purse.

People were fairly astounded that I'd just started doing this. The only explanation is one that I'd used before. I've had the most success doing things when I was too stupid to know it was something I shouldn't have been able to do in a million years.
