$60 per week on groceries . . . for my family?

Recently, I was beginning to wonder about the rising costs of my weekly grocery bill as lately, I found myself spending $250 per week or more to feed my family of five. Granted, I know I am paying more for organic, natural choices and we do like our snacks and desserts, but still is it just me spending this astronomical amount on food?
Then I see them! All the news stories about these crazy rising costs of groceries. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the increases I am seeing in my shopping cart can be basically attributed to a couple of reasons, the first being some serious drought conditions affecting farmers and the second? What else, but the price of oil, of course.
I was intrigued when I caught one particular story on ABC’s Good Morning America a couple of weeks ago which claimed to show me how to shop for $60 per week per couple by cooking most everything from scratch. Now, by my calculations, this should translate to about $150 or so for my family of five with some prepackaged foods thrown in there as well, right?
It is with much excitement and interpretation, I might add, that I have decided to give myself a $150 grocery budget challenge starting this week! So far, so good! The week is almost up and I still have $30 left over today to buy milk, yogurt, cheese toilet paper and maybe even a latte treat for myself!!
