It takes more work to make your own,but honestly who do you think has your baby's best interests at heart?
If you do make your own what is working for you?
I always make my kids food myself. It isn't really any extra work as they pretty much have what we have - but age appropriate.
Whit my oldest (now 2 1/2) I pureed everything, but with my 6 month old I am trying infant led weaning (http://www.tribalbaby.org/babyLedEating.html) and it is much less work and seems to be going really well!
Grace has pieces of potato, kumara, pumpkin, banana, pureed apple, the odd piece of paper she finds on the floor, the occasional crayon, bread, farex (rice cereal) . . . and in between meals she is breast fed.
I found it easy to make baby food. Sweet potatoes, squash etc just make a big batch and then freeze it. I used plastic tuperware just about the size gerber makes. It was nice and easy. Inexpensive too. My baby food grinder was under $10.00.
Homemade baby food is really easy and then you know exactly what your baby is getting. I mainly just smash down food we are eating which helps all of us eat better and sets the expectation that we eat what is provided!
ha! the occasional crayon. my children have consumed more than their fair share of crayons. I try and make my food or buy organic, small label but that ain't cheap

I make my own baby food, but I will use a jar when we go out.
