Are electronics stealing our ability to really bond as families?

All seems quiet on the home front in many of today's households. The children have their own space with their own set of electronic amusements, the parents have their own well deserved retreat, and everybody is seemingly content. There are no fights over who watches what on T.V. everyone has their own, no fussing over what's for dinner everyone can have what they want in the microwave, and most have several computers so, no need to argue there either.

Though it seems quieter, do you feel that our families are peacefully divided under the same roof? Have our conversations changed from those that taught us to share and get along to a set of orders quickly given to maintain the schedule of coming and going?

I wonder if the power went out for any length of time, how well we would find that we know each other. I am not suggesting throwing everything out, but should we find ways to make sure that we maintain good family skills so that we control these things rather than them controlling us. I have found that teens in particular can become so focused on computers and games that they are angry to be interrupted by real life.

Has anyone found this to be true and have you found ways to solve it?

It all depends on the way you look at it. Sure, everyone has their own gadgets that prevents arguing over who's got what. Which is great, don't get me wrong...but I do agree with you to an extent. I honestly think that everyone should have a little pow-wow and discuss the amount of use that they take to take time to themselves with their gizmo's. Put the computer's and X-Box 360's away for a few hours and spend some time with your family by playing a board game or sit down and actually eat a home-cooked meal at the dinner table.

Is that really too much to ask? Or have you been sucked too much in your own little electronic world?

Then again...yay for no more fighting over the television!

thanks Son, I see that electronics are helping us to communicate, and we are doing a good job sharing the computer.... remind me to log out before I hand the computer over next time !

I think that electronics isolate everyone, not just families. they are isolating us from other people in general.
