Moon Sand…one cool invention

I know the mad rush over Moon Sand is basically over, but the novelty of it hasn’t worn off for my daughter yet. In fact, we just saw a commercial on tv for a new piece, and she decided it has been far too long since she last played with her set (maybe last week)
It has it’s cons, but on the whole this is a great toy. It is innovative, and it has so many different facets. I love that the kids can play with it just like they are at the beach, and it doesn’t dry out like clay or playdough. It also doesn’t have a nasty smell like some clay-like substances. My daughter has enjoyed making beach scenes, even adding water! On the cons, it does have a tendancy to get tracked around a bit. Also it is next to impossible to keep the colors separated. My daughter’s set has gone from blue, green, purple and white to an odd shade of mottled gray. It can also be a bit of a challenge for younger kids to use the shape molds. The sand gets stuck inside and you really have to wack it to get the shape out.
All in all, this is a really great toy. I’m still curious, and maybe more than a little afraid, to know what it is made of. I haven’t dug in too deep, as this is one toy I’d hate to have to take away.
